You’ve thought about it.
Maybe you’ve quietly saved a few photographs. Maybe you’ve imagined doing it for a milestone birthday, an anniversary or as a gift for someone you love.
Or perhaps this has nothing to do with anyone else.
Perhaps you’re ready to do something entirely for you.
And then the nerves arrive.
What will I wear?
Will I know how to pose?
What if I feel awkward?
Do I need to lose weight first?
Am I really confident enough for a boudoir photoshoot?
Let me tell you something important: you do not need to arrive feeling confident.
That is not a requirement.
Your first boudoir photoshoot is not a test of how comfortable you are in front of a camera. It is a private, carefully guided experience designed to help you see yourself differently—exactly as you are, right now.
Here is what you can expect when you book your first boudoir photography experience with Boldly Her Photography in Milford, Co. Cork.
Before Your Boudoir Photoshoot
Your experience begins before you ever step in front of my camera.
We will talk about what brought you here, how you would like to feel and what you hope to take away from the experience. You can tell me what you love, what makes you nervous and anything you would prefer not to photograph.
You do not need to arrive with a complete vision. That is what I am here for.
Perhaps you want photographs that feel soft and feminine. Maybe you are drawn to something powerful, dramatic or unapologetically bold. Your session will be shaped around you—not around what you think boudoir photography is supposed to look like.
This is also your opportunity to ask every question on your mind. Nothing is silly, embarrassing or too small to mention.
What Should You Wear?
One of the most common worries before a first boudoir photoshoot is what to wear.
The answer is simple: wear something that feels like you.
That might be beautiful lingerie, an oversized shirt, a bodysuit, a soft robe or a favourite piece you already own. It could even be something as simple as a white sheet.
Boudoir does not have to mean wearing as little as possible. It is about how you feel, not how much you reveal.
Choose pieces that fit you comfortably now. Please do not buy something in a smaller size hoping it will make you look different. Clothing that fits well will always photograph more beautifully—and, more importantly, allow you to breathe, move and feel present.
You are welcome to bring several options, and we can decide together what will work best.
Arriving at the Studio
My studio in Milford, Co. Cork, is fully private and all sessions are by appointment.
There will be no audience and no strangers walking through the space. Your privacy, comfort and trust matter deeply to me.
It is completely normal to feel nervous when you arrive. Most women do.
You might wonder what you have got yourself into. You might laugh nervously or tell me you are terrible in photographs. You might need a few moments to settle.
All of that is welcome.
We will take our time. There is no need to perform, pretend or become a different version of yourself.
You only need to arrive.
“But I Don’t Know How to Pose”
You do not need to know how to pose. Not even a little.
You will be guided throughout your entire session—from where to place your hands to how to angle your body, where to look and how to breathe.
I will demonstrate movements when needed and make small adjustments so you never have to wonder what you should be doing.
My job is not simply to press a button. It is to notice you: your expressions, your strength, your softness and the moments when you begin to let your guard down.
You will not be left standing in front of the camera trying to invent poses.
And no, you do not need to be “photogenic.” Being photogenic is not something a lucky few women are born with. Feeling comfortable, being guided well and being photographed with care make all the difference.
You Are in Control
Boudoir photography should feel empowering—and empowerment always includes choice.
You decide what you wear. You decide how much you reveal. You can say no to any pose or idea, and you can change your mind at any point.
There is no pressure to do anything that does not feel right for you.
Your boundaries will always be respected, and your photographs will never be shared without your permission.
This experience belongs to you.
What If You Feel Self-Conscious?
You may arrive carrying years of criticism with you.
Too much of this. Not enough of that. A body changed by pregnancy, motherhood, illness, grief, age or simply by living.
You do not have to leave those feelings at the door. You do not have to pretend to love every part of yourself before you are allowed to be photographed.
But you also do not need to wait until you are smaller, younger or somehow more “ready.”
Your body is not an unfinished project.
It has carried you through every version of your life. It deserves to be treated with tenderness, respect and celebration.
A boudoir photoshoot will not ask you to become someone else. It gives you the space to meet the woman who is already there.
During Your Session
We will begin gently and allow you time to become comfortable with the camera.
As the session continues, the movements will start to feel more natural. The nerves usually soften. The woman who arrived wondering whether she could do this begins to realise that she already is.
There may be laughter. There may be quiet moments. There may be a point when you surprise yourself.
That transformation is one of my favourite parts of the experience—not because you suddenly become beautiful, but because you begin to recognise the beauty and strength that were present all along.
After Your Boudoir Photoshoot
After your session, your photographs will be carefully selected and professionally edited in keeping with the Boldly Her style.
Editing is there to polish the finished artwork, not to erase the person in it.
You will have the opportunity to view your images and choose the photographs you love. For many women, this is the moment when the experience truly settles in.
Seeing yourself through kinder eyes can be emotional.
You may notice your strength before you notice the things you usually criticise. You may see softness, courage, sensuality or a version of yourself you thought had disappeared.
You might simply think:
God, that’s me.
And I am enough.
Who Is a Boudoir Photoshoot For?
Boudoir is not reserved for models, brides or women who already feel completely confident.
It is for the woman celebrating a milestone birthday.
The woman whose body has changed.
The woman beginning again after a marriage, a divorce, a baby, an illness or a difficult chapter.
The woman who has spent years caring for everyone else.
The woman who wants to create a meaningful gift.
And the woman who does not need a special occasion at all.
You are reason enough.
